The Center for Advanced Translational Stroke Science (CATSS) supports basic and translational stroke-related investigators and promotes related collaborative research bringing together laboratory-based and clinical faculty
Alzheimer's Disease Research Center An integral part of SBCoA is the National Institute on Aging-funded University of Kentucky Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (UK-ADRC). Over the past 35 years, the UK-ADRC has developed a vigorous program in the clinical, neuropathological, educational, and research aspects of Alzheimer's disease that serves as a critical resource for the university, community, state, and nation.
Brain Restoration Center (BRC)With the support of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s Alliance Research Initiative, the Brain Restoration Center (BRC) will investigate a process to heal damaged nerve cells. The team’s research will focus on the Schwann cells that surround all nerve fibers in the peripheral nervous system (outside the brain and the spinal cord) and form myelin sheaths around the nerve fibers to protect them. Schwann cells support the repair and growth of damaged axons. There is a possibility that Schwann cell activity could be used to repair damaged nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
