Personal Statement

Mauricio was born and raised in Quito, the capital of Ecuador and an UNESCO World Heritage center. After obtaining his medical degree, Mauricio spent one year working at a secondary hospital in the Amazon rainforest, and afterwards completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in non-invasive brain stimulation at Harvard Medical School.

Some of Mauricio's interests include numismatics, movies, music, soccer, trivia game shows, and helping organize medical missions to underserved areas in Ecuador. He enjoys living in Lexington and loves to spend time with his wife Ana Cristina, who is a child neurology resident at UK, and with their son, Javier.
